Biggest iPhone Battery Yet? iPhone 17 Pro Max May Hit 5000mAh

A new rumor from leaker Instant Digital suggests Apple is planning a major battery upgrade for the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max, with capacity potentially reaching around 5000mAh.

In a Weibo post, the leaker highlighted the gradual growth of battery sizes in previous Pro Max models, then claimed the iPhone 17 Pro Max could hit the 5000mAh mark—framing it as a sign of Apple's effort to keep pushing forward in this area. If accurate, it would be the largest battery ever in an iPhone, edging past the 4,676mAh cell in the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

A thicker design may help make room for that larger battery. Recent hands-on videos with iPhone 17 dummy units show the Pro Max measuring in at 8.75mm thick—enough to accommodate a bigger cell.


That extra capacity would be especially useful for powering the phone's rumored upgrades, including a more powerful A19 Pro chip, a triple 48-megapixel rear camera system, and possibly a vapor chamber cooling system. The top-tier model—potentially rebranded as the iPhone 17 Ultra—is also expected to feature a smaller Dynamic Island.
