Hulu will replace Star as the global General Entertainment brand on Disney+ beginning October 8, with new design updates and features rolling out. The shift marks a major step in Disney's plan to streamline its streaming services under a single app. With Hulu becoming the global brand, subscribers outside the United States will see more consistent branding and deeper integration across the platform.
Disney says the rollout includes several design updates to make navigation simpler and content easier to find. A new bar has been added to the top of the homepage, and the "For You" tab is now the default view. This section highlights personalized recommendations powered by a refreshed algorithm that adapts to each user's viewing habits. Tabs for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN will also appear depending on the subscription package.
The Live hub has been updated as well, giving users direct access to live news, sports, events, and 24/7 streams. New on-screen labels such as "Season Finale," "New Series," and "New Movie" are being introduced to highlight fresh releases as they become available.
Profiles are taking on a larger role in the interface, helping ensure viewers stay signed in to their own accounts for tailored suggestions. Disney has also modernized the look of the homepage with bigger poster-style artwork, more cinematic carousels, and refreshed brand rows that bring the latest titles forward.
On mobile devices, iOS users will soon see new Disney+ widgets that provide one-tap access to programming directly from the home screen. Additional mobile-first features are expected in the coming months as Disney moves closer to launching its unified app experience in 2026.
