Apple has announced a major expansion of the Monsterverse on Apple TV with an order for a new spin-off series. The untitled drama will feature Wyatt Russell reprising his role as Colonel Lee Shaw, with Emmy Award nominee Joby Harold tapped to showrun the series.
Under a new overall deal with Legendary, Harold is set to oversee the entire Monsterverse franchise for the streaming service. This role includes managing storylines that feature both new and fan-favorite Titans. Harold currently serves as an executive producer on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which has become a global hit since its debut.
Starring and executive produced by Russell, the untitled Young Lee Shaw prequel follows Colonel Shaw in 1984. The narrative centers on an American operative undertaking a secret mission behind enemy lines. His objective is to prevent the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan capable of destroying the U.S. and shifting the balance of the Cold War.
The series is executive produced by Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures. They are joined by Russell, Chris Black, Kyle Bradstreet, Alex Boden, Max Borenstein, and Andy Goddard. The project is produced by Kei Banno, Brian Rogers, and Kenji Okuhira. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita will executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character.
This new project joins an expanding slate of original series from Legendary Entertainment on the platform. In addition to the spin-off news, Apple confirmed that the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will premiere on February 27, 2026.
