OpenAI is expanding its subscription lineup with the global rollout of ChatGPT Go, a new $8-per-month plan aimed at users who want higher usage limits without stepping up to the full $20 Plus tier. At the same time, the company confirmed it will soon begin testing advertisements within its Free and Go plans in the United States.
The new Go plan sits between the free account and the standard Plus subscription. It provides access to the GPT-5.2 Instant model with limits that are ten times higher than the free tier for messaging, file uploads, and image generation. It also includes a longer memory and context window for extended conversations. While Go does not offer the advanced reasoning models available on Plus and Pro, it is designed for users who regularly hit free-tier caps during everyday use.
To help support the lower price point, OpenAI plans to introduce ads to both the Free and Go plans. In the coming weeks, U.S. users may begin seeing sponsored content displayed at the bottom of relevant responses. For example, a chat about planning a dinner party could surface a clearly labeled grocery-related promotion. OpenAI says ads will be visually separated from AI-generated answers and will not interrupt text generation.
The company says it will not sell conversation history to advertisers or use chat data to train models. Ads will also be excluded from sensitive topics such as health, mental health, and politics. Paid tiers including Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise will remain completely ad-free.
The expanded lineup gives Apple users additional flexibility when connecting ChatGPT accounts to Apple Intelligence, offering higher personal usage limits at a lower monthly cost than the Plus subscription.
