Tried Restoring Jailbroken iPhone 3G - Got Stuck on Apple Logo!

Hi!
I got a jailbroken iphone 3G and tried restoring it to wipe the old data. Now of course the phone is stuck on the Apple logo.
The phone was originally locked to AT&T but was jailbroken and being used in Europe.
I don't know what iOS version was running on the iphone, nor what tool was used to jailbreak/unlock it. Only that it had Cydia on it.
Need your help to recover the phone!! I don't really mind which iOS version goes on it, as long as I can use it again.

If you don't care about which OS you restore to, try putting the iPhone into recovery mode and clicking the restore button in iTunes. If that doesn't work, put the iPhone into DFU mode and click the restore button in iTunes.
