Apple's upcoming smart home display is shaping up to be a versatile addition to the living room. Recent details from prototype collector Kosutami suggest the device, referred to as the "HomePad," will utilize a magnetic mounting system and integrate deeply with Apple Intelligence when it launches later this year.
According to a post on X from Kosutami, who frequently acquires Apple hardware prototypes, at least one revision of the HomePad features a MagSafe-like snap-to-wall mechanism. This design would allow the screen to easily attach to a wall mount and detach for use on a countertop or table. The leaker, who claims to have seen the hardware in person, also noted the device will feature native doorbell integration, allowing it to ring and display live video feeds when a visitor arrives.
The hardware is expected to rely heavily on Apple Intelligence to manage household tasks. This aligns with leaked code discovered in iOS 26 that revealed a HomeAccessory device operating on an A18 processor. Equipping the display with an A18 processor would give it enough power to run Apple's generative AI models locally. It will also support the more conversational version of Siri that Apple is currently preparing, allowing the hub to handle more complex smart home commands.
Apple has reportedly been developing the roughly 7-inch square display for several years. The hub is intended to serve as a centralized command center for controlling HomeKit accessories, handling FaceTime calls, playing music, and displaying at-a-glance information like upcoming calendar events and weather forecasts. While early rumors pointed to a potential spring launch, Kosutami indicates the release timeline has shifted to the fall of 2026. Though leakers have been referring to the device as "HomePad," it may not be the final marketing name for the product.
To support the rollout, Apple has reportedly partnered with BYD to manufacture the smart display in Vietnam. This launch strategy separates the standard HomePad from the more ambitious robotic home hub Apple is also building, which features a motorized arm and isn't expected to arrive until at least 2027. A fall release window means the smart display could arrive alongside the iPhone 18 lineup or just ahead of the holiday season.
