Comet AI Browser Launches on iPhone With Perplexity Search [Download]

Comet has released its AI-powered web browser for iOS, bringing Perplexity-backed search and its Deep Research engine to the iPhone. The launch follows the browser's rollout on desktop and Android, giving Apple users another alternative in the growing AI search market.



The app uses a hybrid search model tailored for mobile. Standard results handle quick queries like checking sports scores or looking up a business address. For more complex tasks, the built-in Comet Assistant taps into Perplexity's answer engine. A user could search for a tournament bracket, then ask which team is favored in a specific matchup and why.


Voice mode is built directly into the interface, allowing users to ask questions without typing. Because the assistant is context-aware across open tabs, it can answer questions about the page currently on screen.

Comet also integrates Perplexity's Deep Research engine to analyze web content. It can scan dense web pages, extract key points, and format those summaries into an email draft.

The app is positioned as more than a traditional browser. It can pull up a calendar event, cross-reference invitees on LinkedIn, and generate a brief with suggested questions. In another example, the company says the assistant can research summer camps, summarize trade-offs, and assist with sign-up forms.

Browsing threads and search history sync between the iOS app and Comet's desktop version, letting users start a task on one device and continue it on another without losing context.


The release comes as AI features become more deeply integrated into browsers. We recently saw Opera add tab-aware AI, while OpenAI continues expanding its presence with the native ChatGPT Atlas app. Comet's arrival gives iPhone users another AI-focused browser option available now.
