Apple has officially released macOS Tahoe 26.4 to the public, bringing a highly requested battery management tool, a returning Safari layout option, and new emoji characters to the Mac.
While Apple's release notes for the update are brief, the software introduces a new Charge Limit feature located within System Settings. This control gives MacBook users the ability to manually cap their battery charge anywhere between 80 and 100 percent. The setting is designed to help preserve long-term battery health for machines that stay plugged into a monitor or dock for extended periods.
The update also returns the compact tab bar option to Safari and adds eight new emoji to the keyboard. The new characters include an orca, a trombone, a landslide, a ballet dancer, and a distorted face.
The broader artificial intelligence enhancements originally anticipated for this spring are absent from this release. Apple reportedly pushed major Siri upgrades to a later update after encountering internal performance snags during the testing phase. The final public release carries build number 25E246, advancing slightly from the Release Candidate seeded to developers last week.
Mac users can download the update over the air by navigating to the Software Update menu in System Settings. For those who prefer a manual installation, direct installer and restore image links are available on our Where to Download macOS Tahoe page.
