iPhone X and 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro Are Now Obsolete

Apple has added the iPhone X and 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro to its worldwide obsolete products list, according to an August 13 update to its vintage and obsolete products support page.



Products become obsolete more than seven years after Apple stops distributing them for sale. Once a device reaches that status, Apple and Apple Authorized Service Providers no longer offer hardware repairs or replacement parts. Products become vintage more than five and less than seven years after Apple stops distributing them for sale and remain eligible for service while parts are available.


Introduced in November 2017, the iPhone X was Apple's first iPhone with Face ID, an OLED display, and an edge-to-edge design that eliminated the Home button. Apple stopped distributing the model in September 2018, and its final major software update was iOS 16. The device currently supports iOS 16.7.16.

The 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro introduced Apple's T2 security chip and featured the butterfly keyboard, which remained covered by Apple's repair program through 2024. Apple refreshed the 15-inch MacBook Pro in 2019 before replacing it with the 16-inch MacBook Pro later that year. The 2018 model remains limited to macOS Sequoia.

Older hardware is routinely moved between Apple's vintage and obsolete product lists as it ages out of support. Previous updates included the 11-inch MacBook Air, which became obsolete, and the iPhone 11 Pro, Apple Watch Series 5, and final Intel MacBook Air, which were added to the vintage list.

One exception is Mac laptops, which may still be eligible for an extended battery-only repair period for up to 10 years from when Apple last distributed the model for sale, subject to parts availability.
