The mind-bending sci-fi thriller "Dark Matter" is officially returning to Apple TV this summer, with a second season set to premiere on Friday, August 28, 2026. Starring Golden Globe nominee Joel Edgerton and Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly, the new 10-episode run picks up where the first season left off, exploring the consequences of the road not taken across a mind-bending landscape of alternate lives.
Based on the blockbuster novel by Blake Crouch, who continues to serve as creator, showrunner, and writer, the upcoming season will debut its first episode on August 28, followed by weekly installments every Friday through October 30. The story follows the Dessen family as they settle into a world that finally feels safe, only to be forced on the run once again. As Jason's obsession with the Box deepens, Daniela's growing paranoia threatens to tear their fragile stability apart.
The season also expands the journeys of other key characters, with Amanda and Ryan joining forces in a desperate attempt to find their way home. Meanwhile, Leighton relentlessly pursues his vision of a perfect world, while Blair remains determined to stop him. The ensemble cast includes Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley, and Amanda Brugel.
Produced for Apple TV by Sony Pictures Television, the series is executive produced by Crouch alongside Matt Tolmach, Richard Lederer, and Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry, who co-wrote every episode of the second season with Crouch. Edgerton and Connelly also serve as executive producers. The first season is now streaming on Apple TV.
