Apple Shares Trailer for Action Comedy 'Mayday' Starring Ryan Reynolds [Video]

Apple Original Films has released the first official trailer for the action comedy "Mayday," starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh. The film is scheduled to premiere globally on Apple TV on September 4, 2026.



Billed as a genre-bending buddy comedy that flips the traditional spy thriller format, the story centers on U.S. Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy "Assassin" Kelly (Reynolds). After a top-secret mission into Russian territory collapses at the height of the Cold War, Kelly is left stranded behind enemy lines.


He is soon discovered by Nikolai Ustinov (Branagh), a gruff former KGB agent who harbors a surprising appreciation for American culture. The two men form an unlikely alliance as they attempt to orchestrate a rescue mission, building an unexpected bond along the way.

Hailing from Skydance Media, the project is co-directed, written, and produced by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Production is managed by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger for Skydance, alongside Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau for Maximum Effort. Ryan Reynolds, George Dewey, and John G. Scotti serve as executive producers. Apple previously shared a first look at the film earlier this year as part of its expanding original film slate.
