Apple has unveiled a first look at "Mayday," a new action-adventure film led by Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh. The company confirmed during its press day that the feature is set to premiere globally on Apple TV on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Described as a genre-bending buddy comedy that upends the traditional spy thriller, the film follows Lieutenant Troy "Assassin" Kelly, a hotshot U.S. Navy pilot played by Reynolds. When a top-secret mission into Russian territory goes wrong at the height of the Cold War, Kelly is left stranded behind enemy lines. His survival depends on an unlikely alliance with Nikolai Ustinov, a gruff ex-KGB agent with a surprising fondness for American culture, played by Branagh.
The ensemble cast also features Marcin Dorocinski, Maria Bakalova, and David Morse. Hailing from Skydance Media, the project is written, directed, and produced by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Production credits include David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger for Skydance, alongside Ashley Fox and Johnny Pariseau for Maximum Effort.
