SpaceX Completes Acquisition of AI Code Editor Cursor

AI coding startup Cursor is now part of SpaceX, completing an acquisition process that began in April with a partnership aimed at accelerating AI model training. Cursor confirmed the closing in a post on its official blog.



The acquisition completes a process that began in April, when SpaceXAI and Cursor announced a partnership that included an option for SpaceX to acquire the company. After SpaceX later became a public company, the two firms confirmed they would move forward with the acquisition, culminating in the previously announced $60 billion transaction.


Cursor said the acquisition gives it access to "the largest fleet of GPUs in the world," providing the compute needed to build stronger AI models that are more economical to run while enabling the company to offer more capable models at lower cost.

"SpaceX is building the computing capacity needed to scale intelligence far beyond what exists today," the company said. "Cursor will be one place where that intelligence becomes useful."

Cursor pointed to Grok 4.6, released earlier this week, as an early example of what it and SpaceX can now build together. The company said the editor has evolved from completing a few lines of code to acting as an AI teammate capable of handling real work, while remaining focused on helping people with ambitious ideas spend less time writing code and more time solving harder problems.
