OLED iPad mini Said to Be 'Considerably More Expensive'

Apple's next iPad mini is expected to cost considerably more than the current model, according to Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter. The update will introduce an OLED display to the smaller tablet.

The current model starts at $599 in the U.S. Gurman estimates the replacement could be closer to $799, an increase of roughly $200 if that prediction holds.

An unveiling around October 27 is planned alongside redesigned touchscreen MacBook Pro models and M6 updates to the existing 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac. Apple has not announced that event or the tablet's price.

Beyond the new screen, the mini is expected to get an A20 Pro chip, a FaceTime camera moved to the landscape edge, and a revamped speaker system. The processor and camera changes have already appeared in leaked Apple code and product artwork, replacing the A17 Pro chip and portrait-edge camera in today's model.

Separate supply-chain rumors have pointed to an 8.4-inch OLED panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. That would be slightly larger than the current 8.3-inch LCD while retaining a standard refresh rate rather than adding ProMotion.
