For those users that are planning to Jailbreak on OS 3.1.3 then I recommend adding this Cydia Source into Cydia after you jailbreak so you don't have to manually input all the Cydia Sources manually. This will automatically add all the best Cydia Sources and give you access to all the best Cydia Tweaks, Themes and Apps for FREE with just a push of a button. Follow the steps below.
1. Open Cydia
2. Tap Sources
3. Tap Edit
4. Tap Add
5. Type this url in the box (cydiasource,n e t) without the spaces and switch coma for a dot in the url.
6. Tap "Add Source"
7. Install the package labelled "All Sources".
This will give you all the best Cydia Sources to have access to all the best Tweaks, Apps and Themes for FREE..

Sorry, a total newbie... but when I tried to download Pwnage 3.1.5, it downloaded as "PwnageTool_3.1.5.dmg.5344262.TPB.torrent," and consequently won't open up for me. I just can't figure out how to do it. It used to download simply as a .dmg. Is there something wrong on my end? Any help, it'd be great, thanks!

This file is a torrent file. You need software like Vuze (vuze.com). Open the torrent file in Vuze (just double click it) and the actual pwnage software will download through Vuze.

If you already pwned your iPhone before, there is no need to restore using DFU mode.... Just turn off your iDevice, press and hold the Home Button and connect the usb cable. KEEP PRESSING THE HOME BUTTON UNTIL YOU GET THE CONNECT TO ITUNES LOGO ON THE IPHONE!!. Restore your phone :).... I've did this yesterday on Snow Leopard and iTunes 10 and it worked great... Cheers!

i just tried this and got error 1600 upon restoring to the custom firware. my 2G phone which was on 3.0 firmware is now got stuck on apple logo. for more background info, i am on Mac OSX 10.5.8 and 9.0 iTunes. it is not the first time i pwn my iphone, and during these steps it did not ask me for the BL files.
after a series of DFU modes and pressing the home button then connecting to the computer, my phone is back on running on the old 3.0 with all my info as if nothing happened.
any ideas of how i can try to get to 3.1.3 again without damaging my existing OS?

I have been trying to unlock my iphone 2G for days with several programs. They all appear to work but when I put in my t-mobile sim card it doesn't read it. Same after following this site. What am I doing wrong? I have a DEACTIVATED at&t sim card that is in the phone when running the programs here. Do I need to put the t-mobile sim card in instead BEFORE I start. Help. Thanks.

I have a 2G and have been updating since it was 1.1.2 to every single firmware following this tutorial, and never had a problem I could not solve (not an expert). But in all these times, I had the SIM card inserted on the phone while jailbraking. You should try it.

WOW. Worked to the dot as given. Smoothest upgrade ever had (upgraded from 1.1 to 2.1 , 3.0, 3.1, 3.1.2 and now to 3.1.3 - iPhone 2G first generation phone)
No problems at all. Bluetooth, wireless, GPRS and phone works fine.
Kudos to the team. Thanks folks

Everything ok but when installing firmware with iTune, I get an error (2600 or similar), do I need to use a particular version of iTunes? (got 9.0.3)
Or is there any possibility that the bootloaders I get on the net are corrupted ?(the one on the tutorial is not available from here)
Thanks.

Have you pwn your phone before??... if so, DFU is not necessary.
Just connect the USB cable to your computer and turn off the phone without the cable connected to the phone. After it shuts down, press and hold the HOME button and connect the USB cable to the phone. This will take you to recovery mode and to the firmware restore completition :)
Cheers

Regarding Step 6: I already unlocked/jailbroke my 2G iPhone in 2008 using anySim so I could run my phone on T-Mobile. Do I still leave the 'activate' item checked? Also, what items do I need to select in the select packages list? Thanks!

Regarding question one: Yes. Regarding question 2, if you've no idea what all those checks mean, do not check them, just check on Cydia Installer, and if you get to use it, you'll have those packages through it. It's all trial and error...
