Despite multiple leaks and patent filings, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple is unlikely to ship a reversible USB cable and new charger alongside the iPhone 6.
"We don't expect the USB power adapter and Lightning cable for iPhone 6 to have significant design changes," Kuo wrote in a Monday morning note to investors, a copy of which was obtained by AppleInsider. Kuo cited "cost concerns and limited improvements to overall user experience that such changes would bring" before declaring the speculation "off the mark."
The report from Kuo corroborates one from Moca.co who said it's an MFi-certified vendor working with Apple's main Lightning cable provider and that Apple hasn't placed any orders for the new cable yet.

Who cares about the cable, just as long as the iPhone 6 can transfer data at USB3.0 will be more important, especially if there is a 128GB model.

These analysts are like weather forecasters. They can be right once in awhile, and still keep their jobs.

Try $40, innovation at it's best, and stupidy and it's finest.

I don't know. The simple design is enough to make people sit up and say 'How come no one else could think of anything as elegant as this?"
It may seem stupid to a Chinese tech (stock) analyst, but it's the kind of innovation that Apple is famous for. Apple didn't become famous for inventing the most useless features, they did so by using the most useful ones is ways which worked reliably.

They could make a charger which only works with that cable

The charger has nothing to do with it. The cable would work with all existing usb devices.

Maybe the packaging was settled and can't replace the current usb cables to the newer ones.
