iPhone 3GS PurpleRa1n Jailbreak Released for Mac

Posted July 5, 2009 at 5:14pm by iClarified
GeoHot's iPhone 3GS PurpleRa1n jailbreak has been released for Mac OS X.

You asked for it, and we delivered. I'm not a mac coder, so AriX and westbaer stepped up to do it. Check out AriX's blog here. Download link on purplera1n.com, and thank AriX and westbaer next time you see them!

Also, some more payload stability improvements were made, and the windows version was updated to RC2a. There is no reason to run RC2a if you already have RC2 installed.

Winterboard works now!! Found a quick tutorial on Mac Themes board, http://macthemes2.net/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=503122, scroll down to post #40. It will probably be available via Cydia soon if not already.

I'm pretty sure it was footage from the glasses that was used to make the video...

Jailbraker, You obviously don't know what you're talking about. That's the inherent point of the position you're taking on the matter. I've jailbroken with this, and I've found no critical issues. There are things that don't work yet such as Winterboard, but so what? Those things will be fixed and in the meantime, I can enjoy everything else a jailbroken iPhone 3GS gives me. The absolute worst case scenario is that I don't like it and I do a full restore, but so far, I'm loving it.

Jailbraker, English may not be your native language, so maybe you're having as hard of a time reading about what's going on here, and who GeoHot is, as you are expressing your thoughts. Then again, there's something to be said about prefacing your comments with admitting that you don't know what you're talking about. Anyone worried about malware should simply invest the time reading about who GeoHot is, as well as reading up on the Dev Team. The information is available as is information about why this is safe and not going to lead to a bricked iPhone. It hasn't yet, and again, the worst scenario that could occur is having to do a full restore. Furthermore in regards to malware, it's pretty simple to monitor the app and analyze what it's doing...if you don't trust GeoHot, for whatever reason, trust those that do, or learn how to determine this for yourself before making your totally baseless claims...especially when they attack the person who made this possible as well as what has made jailbreaking possible for the Dev Team in the past.

They're here: https://www.iclarified.com/4417/how-to-jailbreak-your-iphone-3gs-using-purplera1n-windows It's the same procedure as the Windows version, just a lot prettier and purpler. Sorry, I meant to include that URL in my previous post, but I was so excited I forgot. I'm modding the hell out of my 3GS!!!! Thanks again!

I tried this and it does work... as well as a BETA should though. Honestly props to GeoHot and his colleagues for their efforts, but WiFi is still intermittent and I can't send out SMS with a strong T-Mobile signal. Valiant effort... and truly shows that there is a weakness in the 3GS 3.0 - I am waiting for the DEV TEAM release myself. Restoring back to stock 3.0 firmware.

The instructions are the same as for Windows. You get a much prettier application window, but otherwise it's the same...very brain-dead simple instructions that take less than 5 minutes. I feel sooo much better now with my jailbroken iPhone 3GS. Thanks so much for this. THANKS...THANKS!!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!
