Apple CEO Tim Cook announced during the company's quarterly conference call that it sold its 1 billionth iOS device last quarter. According to Apple, the company sold 34,000 iPhones every hour, 24 hours a day for the entire quarter. The company sold 74.5 million iPhones last quarter, setting a new record.

Cook also noted that the iPhone 6 was the most popular iPhone last quarter (compared to the iPhone 6 Plus). Additionally, some geographies preferred the iPhone 6 Plus whereas some preferred the iPhone 6.

Both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been widely successful. Apple planned an aggressive international launch, and the company noted that they just recently reached supply-demand balance in January.

Cook remained optimistic about the future of the iPhone, noting that only a small fraction of the iPhone user base has upgraded to the new iPhones. The current iPhone lineup also experienced the highest Android switch-rate compared to any other iPhone launch (more people switched to Android during this iPhone launch than ever before).
