Steve Wozniak Explains the Difference Between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates

Posted May 31, 2015 at 5:13pm by iClarified
Steve Wozniak recently explained what he thinks is the biggest difference between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates on a press call for National Geographic Channel's new 'American Genius' episode that pits the two technology figures against each other.

Wozniak said that Jobs had "a very futuristic forward vision, almost a bit of the science fiction, 'Here’s what life could be,' but Bill Gates had more of an execution ability to build the things that are needed now, to build a company now, make the profits now, in the short-term."

"I think that was the biggest difference between them," he said.

Wozniak also noted that while Jobs may be the more celebrated figure in the rise of personal computers, Gates was the one who understood how to make money.

"You really need the vision like Steve Jobs had, but the vision doesn't go anywhere if you try to jump in and build products before they are cost effective for what they do, return on investment is there," he said. "It was during the time of the Macintosh that the world market grew 10 times and Apple did not go up with it."

The National Geographic Channel will air 'American Genius: Jobs vs. Gates' airs on Monday, June 1st at 9PM.

They both marketed "other's" ideas and innovations,i.e. Xerox. And all of the individuals who created transistors, microprocessors, minature circuits...Woz is the true inventor/innovator.

I like Woz, having met him a few times, and respect his intelligence, insight creativity and humor. But I cant help but think he might have overlooked the fact that while Jobs introduced the Macintosh it was Sculley and others who failed to take the Mac to it's full potential. Sculley pursued the business market trying to build machines that could compete with IBM. This was the terminal replacement market. eg Airline reservation terminal and the like. Sculley threw out the consumer, his "we are not in the games market" was the end of consumer software for Apple (II & Mac). It wasn't Jobs who was at Next

Even without them back then, those Macs still could do anything possible.

Woz invented the Apple. Jobs saw the potential. Gates had a lawyer for a dad that would help him when he stole QDOS and lied to IBM about having an OS for them. Gates had his people strew bugs in DOS so that third-party applications would fail and be buggy compared to his Office Suite of products.

A major flaw that's eventually fixed, what's your excuse though? It's just one problem.

I'll be honest I dislike apple products. But you have to look at the facts. Lots of people. Apple is doing very well because of it. The fact of the matter is Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Steve Wozniak are all genius and have made this world a little more fun and productive.

The biggest difference between the two.....the visionary is dead, the boring copycat is still alive.

How ironic the one that builds for the future dies first. The one that wants things done today lives on..

Funny how windows improved a lot up until 8. Took lessons from the first one. The logo looks almost identical, just as texture less, no effects except apps spinning when opening, but that's it. Windows before 8 was that simple. Mac however has so much detail and bright colors and textures and isn't as unsecured as windows. Bod is the main reason I stopped using windows, but there is much more to that.

MacBooks last longer than PC laptops of the same age. 2006 MacBooks still being used today. 2006 PC laptops that's rare to see.

There are still people using Windows xp machines. Many 10 to 15 year old computer
Greco
Greco - June 3, 2015 at 4:34am
Woz- XP is no longer supported by Microsoft. 2006 macbook on Lion is still supported by Apple. I'm not sure what your point is. No too many people I know would use obsolete OS on the Web. Maybe to run old programs for specific needs.

This was the only reason I simply deleted there pop-ads app before I do anything this fcking annoying ad's popup. Feels like they become more greedy. They should do something before everyone start deleting their app before not even one single reader left. SHAME ON iClarified!

Mike Power - May 31, 2015 at 9:15pm
that is the difference between mac and windows, no pop ups. Windows the best there is.

gamerscul9870 - May 31, 2015 at 9:31pm
who said anything about ads being better. How is that even an advantage to windows? Just turn on airplane mode, not to mention there is no iclarified for windows thereby argument invalid @winme.
