While Apple Music has faced some criticism, CEO Tim Cook revealed the recently-launched music streaming service has over 6.5 million paying subscribers.

During an on-stage interview at WSJD conference, Tim Cook also noted that over 8.3 million people are still in the trial period.

“It’s going really well,” Cook said. “We are now over 6.5 million paid users and 8.3 million people in the trial. Over 15 million people are using Apple Music.”

Prior to Apple Music's launch, Apple reportedly had the ambitious goal of signing up 100 million paying subscribers. For comparison, Spotify has over 20 million paid subscribers.

While Apple Music has already reached 6.5 million paying subscribers, the service has been heavily criticized for usability and design issues; however, since its launch with iOS 8.4, Apple has made some improvements to the service.

Apple Music is available for $9.99 per month, or $14.99 for a family package. The service comes with a 90-day free trial.
