Apple today officially announced that it has sold one billion iPhones. Apple CEO Tim Cook made the announcement at an employee meeting in Cupertino this morning.
"iPhone has become one of the most important, world-changing and successful products in history. It's become more than a constant companion. iPhone is truly an essential part of our daily life and enables much of what we do throughout the day," said Cook. “Last week we passed another major milestone when we sold the billionth iPhone. We never set out to make the most, but we’ve always set out to make the best products that make a difference. Thank you to everyone at Apple for helping change the world every day."
News of the achievement comes as the company's next generation iPhone is rumored to go up for pre-order on September 9th with a September 16th release date.

I wonder how many brand new working phones were sold versus refurbished ones. I'm also concerned about the quality of the lightning cable for a $1K phone. Apple is facing competition soon.

The only reason people switched is all because youtubers constantly ruining the phones because of how much money they made on launch day, the one guy trying to sneak hundreds of iPhone 6's he paid for many on launch day, replacing them because drop testing them, the list goes on, but there's little to no problems with the phone itself and the closest that it has ever gotten to in the case of selling more in terms of this is the 6 bending which is mainly why most like me wait for s versions that always fixes the problems with their predecessor. Lightning is a step up to bulky one way 30-pin. USB-C is a further example of how forward we are moving.

How many given to charities or given away? That would be interesting.

What if there are those out there who a,ready have the phones, but not the money for their own problems? Maybe nearly everyone who need charities has one.

iPhone changed the mobile industry. It truly married a cellphone to a PDA without crashing and practical function programs. Today there are many other smartphones but it started and evolved due to the iPhone.

Well said! No matter what other companies attempt to act like they're the "best" at, they'll still keep coming back to catch up.

Publish the statistics of phone repaired under Apple care. Publish statistics of how many had to pay to replace a phone after a defective software update, which renders the phone useless, unlike a computer that functions with its keyboards. Publish information about a suggestion that was made 7 years ago about making a car, and a watch. The great ideas of innovations were suggested by others (they will take your suggestions however if they actually use those ideas they won't give you credit), even when you refuse to sign documents.

Whatever...it is still loved by many. Makes no difference whether there are statistics like those you want, well not true. Maybe only you will feel happy.
