Google has announced plans to release a second Pixel smartphone later this year.

Rick Osterloh, head of the hardware department at Google, spoke to AndroidPit about the future of Pixel devices. He noted that there are currently too few Pixel devices to meet consumer demand.

Osterloh also confirmed that the Pixel will remain a premium device and a cheaper version won't be released. "Pixel stays premium," he said.

Google is planning to follow the typical yearly smartphone release schedule similar to other manufacturers.

Osterloh said, "There is an annual rhythm in the industry. So, you can count on us to follow it." He then followed up by saying, "You can count on a successor this year, even if you don't hear a date from me now."

With both Apple and Samsung planning some impressive updates this year, it will be interesting to see what Google has in store for its next generation Pixel. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
