Essential Products, a company started by Andy Rubin, co-founder of Android, has unveiled the Essential Phone.

Designed to compete with the smartphones on the market, the Essential Phone features a 5.71-inch near edge-to-edge display with a 19:10 display ratio and a 2560 x 1312 QHD resolution. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 3040mAh battery. The device uses Gorilla Glass 5, a titanium body, and a ceramic back to minimize damage from accidental drops.

There’s a reason titanium is used to build rockets and replace bones. Unlike aluminum, which is what most phones are made of, titanium doesn’t scratch, dent, or bend. That's why you won’t find an area for phone cases on our site. We believe titanium is the perfect material to create one of the most essential things in our lives – one we all sometimes drop. When performing a corner drop test on solid concrete, the Essential Phone’s titanium enclosure survived the fall without blemish, unlike the aluminum competitor devices.

The Essential Phone introduces a new magnetic connector with wireless data transfer to allow for accessory connection and docking. Essential has introduced 'the world’s smallest 360° personal camera' as its first notable accessory.

Other 360° cameras are big, bulky, and complicated to use. We thought it was about time someone made a 360° camera for the rest of us. Simply click the 360° camera to your phone to point, shoot, and share. It’s that easy.

When you're not using the 360 degree camera attachment there is a 13MP Dual RGB + Mono camera with image fusion technology. On the front there is 8MP resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio. Both can shoot 4K video.

We understand that you won’t use a 360 camera to capture every moment in your life. That’s why we put so much effort into developing one of the world’s best phone cameras. The result is the world’s thinnest dual camera system built for a phone. It uses both color and monochrome sensors that can capture up to 200% more light than traditional phone cameras. This results in stunning images that are rich in color and detail, even in low light. The phone also offers a true ‘monochrome’ mode.

Pricing and Availability:
The Essential Phone will come in four colors: Black Moon, Stellar Grey, Pure White, and Ocean Depths. You can reserve one today for $699. A limited time phone and 360 degree camera bundle is also being offered for $749, down from $898.
