Apple is still struggling to produce the 3D sensor used in the iPhone X's TrueDepth camera, reports Nikkei. Specifically, manufacturers are purportedly working to perfect the dot projectors.

The dot projector makes up part of the transmitting module, dubbed "Romeo," of iPhone X's new facial recognition function that allows users to unlock phones and make payments, according to the executive. The receiving module is fittingly named "Juliet."

Jeff Pu, an analyst with Yuanta Investment Consulting, also identified the dot projector as the troublesome component that is holding back mass production. Pu has revised his estimates down from 40 million units to 36 million units produced this year.

Pre-orders for the new iPhone X go live on October 27th with the official release scheduled for November 3rd. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
