Rogers starts enforcing the rule of restricting the plan to exclude PDA,... any un-certified device. My bill changed from $0 -> $xxx this month!!! Do I can my IMEI or switch to someone else?

My recommendation, play the fool. I got over $1000 charges refunded last month and tis month. Though this month, they told me they won't be able to refund anymore. No more iphone unlimited. Well I sold my iphone last week and got an HTC Touch Diamond so until they have an unlimited windows mobile plan, no more data usage on Rogers.

Just got a text message that I've incured $75 in data fees. $7 unlimited plan has worked great for 6 months and now charges? I called Rogers and after getting the run-around, I'm told that Rogers does not credit non-Rogers devices. The fact that I've gotten out of being billed for my data for the last six months was "a fluke" - thanks Customer Service!!! Monitor your data usage this month and be careful? My guess is now that Rogers should have valid IMEI's for the new iPhones, they know what to look for and are charging for the data on those devices. iPhone IMEI blacklist perhaps? Any other ideas?

Hi Guys,
I almost had a heart attack here when I got my bill tonight. It was for $1200!!!
Then I talked with Rogers and they have clarified the issue and confirmed th atit is okay to sue my phone as they don't have any charges. They had mass amount fo charge for the day that they have turned feature on and they ahve reversed it saying it ahs been a system glitch on their end.
Anyway, it is all good now...thank God. I guess this means we can use our iPhones unlimted on this package despite what it says on theri web site :))
cheers,
Mert

Anybody else got their bill yet?
Mert
Mert - February 18, 2008 at 2:22pm
Good news for me o far, too. I've just talked with Rogers and no data charges for me on my bill either. after I signed up on February 5th, I've used about 23MBs of data on my iPhone both for surfing, installer, weather, RSS, locate me, google maps, etc. and no charges ahve been applied.

One thing that I'm curious or worried about is adjustments to the previous months in the future. Anyone thinks that is possible?

Igf it goes like this hurray!!! We have unlimted access on Rogers for iPhone :))

Cheers

It is first month only.. I guess it might be 3 months if you're a new Rogers customer...

Well I'll see mine soon enough... I'm still scared to use it though... I don't want Rogers to get us somehow...
Adrian
Adrian - February 18, 2008 at 9:40am
Yeah no charges. Was it first month free or first 3 I can't remember
Mert
Mert - February 17, 2008 at 5:07pm
Hey Adrian.. it is hard to read in there but I assume you got no charges, then?

They were also saying first month free unlimted everything with taht $20 package. Do you think it might have something to do with that? did you sign-up for $7 or $20?

Cheers

After reading all this, I decided to ask for the $10 for 10MB package instead, and guess what, Rogers call center people are actually recommending me to have the $7 unlimited browsing package instead. Yes, I told them that I am using an iPhone, and I am now connected to internet.com instead of goam.com. Call center told me to call them if I have trouble with the bill. So, my plan is to use a little bit, and see what happen at when I receive the bill. (No, you don't get the first month free with this package).

I wanted to know what that hint was as well.. and what wongda was saying about the stealthsim. Also, if you give them the IMEI of another phone that is turned on, will that work?
Mert
Mert - February 8, 2008 at 11:25pm
Mine is due in a week... Moving from Eurpe to Canada, one thing I still couldn't digest is how they rip us off with this crappy phone service and selection... On the other side of teh fence, take Telus and Bell.. very outstanding data products but come with CDMA... WTF is CDMA? who else uses it in the world... We're the forced sheeps they are the dictator shepherds... I so wish one day either Verizon, Cingular or AT&T gets in to the Canadian market and they learn their lesson...

p.s. my bill is three days overdue.. kinda worried
Adrian

I called again today and got yet another answer about the billing cycles. They said no charges are appearing because it happens at the end of the billing cycle. I am going to try getting through to the account care department (i think thats what its called) it's the highest level you can go before cancelling your service and they are the one's that have the power to take care of shit. Will keep you posted.

Sorry it was Adrian not wongda... :)

I'm so mad guys.. I can't even describe it... I'm thinking aobut goign to my mobile 10 plan I used to have.. 10mb for $10.. it was just fine with my iPhone unless I used downloads and heavy google maps. I wasn't getting charged for anything as long as I'm with 10mb limit.

Cheers,
Mert

I'm so frustrated with Rogers for all this lingo... I'm just desperately hoping that Wongda and I don't get a huge bill at the end of this billing cycle as we both have used about 20mbs already which is $1000 data alone... I've sent following message to Rogers and I'll see what they say in reply and post it here... ========================================== Hi There, I've signed up with your unlimited internet browsing program when it was released. When I've read about the plan at the following link, I've signed up to use it with my iPhone and now I hear it is limited to certain phones and only with the mobile browser??? What is that about? We're paying handsomely to Rogers for years and is this the best you come up with??? Seriously guys I'm furious about how you threat loyal Rogers customers such as me for over so many years. Somebody over there at CEO's desk are trying to scare away their own customers. I hear now all the internet usage I've had with my iPhone is going to be billed based on some internet resources but this was not communicated to me at the sign-up or on the web page that I saw this plan. A friend of mine has an iPhone and called your data department and they say there are no charges even though he has been using it with his iPhone and downloaded over 20MBs of content. So which one is right? Can we use our phones or are we stuck with Rogers's crappy phone selection and stupid mobile browsers on phones like V3? Not even HTC touch's browser seems eligible based on some internet resources. Please clarify the issue for me. I hope, for Rogers' sake, it is a more generous plan than it sounds like. Let me know please. Thanks, Mert K.

If IMEI is communicated only when you turn on the phone, ... what if I have my old phone turn on with a Rogers IMEI and than When StealthSIM ask me to display notification, I always hit "Cancel". Will this work? I want to know too what hint iClarified is referring to as well. thx

First fo all, thanks for the great step-by-step tutorials, they've helped me tremendously. iClarified: Is there any way you could be a little more specific with the hint? I read the entire thread but I couldn't find what you were talking about.... Anyone else know? Hiding IMEI? WAP instead of EDGE?
Adrian
Adrian - February 7, 2008 at 8:25pm
So I didn't do much today. I called in and asked the data so far. The guy said 15mb and I asked the current charges. He said no charges. If anyone else has got this plan call in to customer support as to get the Data/Customer Care section and ask to check your data usage, ask if you have any edge usage. Should be interesting. A

Mert - February 7, 2008 at 1:20am
For everyone's sake, let's hope you're right... I've notied that I've sued about 12 mbs myself since yesterday on my iPhone, too. if they charge us 5 cent per kb, we're already screwed my friend :)) Glad to hear your reply. I cna use that answer to argue with them in case of a billing issue. I don't want to get like 30000 phone bill from Rogers just like that guy in Calgary for using mobile internet :))
Adrian
Adrian - February 6, 2008 at 9:31pm
Ok so half an hour of being bounced around with rogers support. Finally got through to the data department. Since yesterday I have used 12mb of data. Currently no charges pending or going to be applied to my account. The guy asked me what type of phone i was using. I said iPhone. He said cool how is it yada yada. He looked at the data usage more and said it is coming through as WAP usage. Don't ask me how but it seems to be working. I used the internet.com edge settings. I am going to call back tomorrow night again to reconfirm everything and will let everyone. But when he was saying bye he told me I shouldnt have anything to worry about. A
wongda
wongda - February 6, 2008 at 9:25pm
I suppose for roger is simple. If you access through APN=internet.com, you pay full fee. If you access APN=goam.com, you pay $20. We can argue and blame the stupid marketing messaging, but Rogers billing system is not going to change.
Adrian
Adrian - February 6, 2008 at 9:10pm
Looks like it's WAP only. I have been given different answers from rogers. When I signed up i specifically asked if it was EDGE the lady said yes to me on the phone. I called this morning to their data department checked my usage and they said I should have no additional charges. Now I am being told it is for WAP only and 5mb download for other data. I will keep everyone posted. I am yelling at them on the phone as I type A

I called today, it only works with the phone that I am "supposed" to be using (Nokia) browser. If someone makes an application to fake the browser maybe .....
wongda
wongda - February 5, 2008 at 6:56pm
This is unlimited for WAP. I think the iPhone need the EDGE plan which is still running at $15 for the first 2MB and $10 per MB thereafter.
Mert
Mert - February 5, 2008 at 6:36pm
If you go to compare plans, it says that... this is totally not fair. If I didn't see that, they'd cahrge you and no support rep told me about it thinking perhaps I have Rogers phone but they must say it explicitly. As iCalrified guys say, it'll be interesting to see how they enforce $ 5 Cent per kb charge for non-rogers devices...
Mert
Mert - February 5, 2008 at 6:27pm
Where did they see the fine print??? It is not on their web site... I sure would give them heck if they charged me a dime extra
Mert
Mert - February 5, 2008 at 6:21pm
I've just switched to this new plan and been using it with my iPhone. To be honest, I didn't see the fine print. Hopefully it'll not cause a huge bill. I'll see soon enough by February 15th on my billing cycle. If they do charge me extra, they'll have hell of a fight with me over the phone for sure. Espeically when their competitors are giving unlimited data for $10 i.e Telus and Bell.

redrum - February 5, 2008 at 5:46pm
hi guy, i think even if you use the iphone with the plan i think it will still work cos' right now we can still use the rogers sim to call and send text msg. so why not upgrade the plan and it will still work cos' i don't think they will even know what kind of phone we are using;)))
Curtis
Curtis - February 5, 2008 at 5:22pm
I just called Rogers. Data devices are NOT eligible for this plan. The rep told me only "normal" cell phones (ie. Razer) are eligible.
Unicornasaurus
Unicornasaurus - February 5, 2008 at 3:29pm
Most likely will NOT work on your iPhone as described by the fine print. * Plan includes unlimited on-device mobile browsing only. Plan is available on select phones only (PDAs such as Blackberry or Windows Mobile devices, PC cards and non-Rogers certified devices are not eligible).
Sam
Sam - February 5, 2008 at 2:45pm
Well if it does work.. I'm in. I'm paying 6$ just for call display. 20$ seems like a good deal for all of this. Whenever you try to load up weather, safari, or anything requiring internet it checks for edge first and then if it's not available wifi. Should be the opposite.
iClarified
iClarified - February 5, 2008 at 2:39pm
I don't have confirmation on that yet. Of course you wouldn't tell Rogers that you have an iPhone... And usually checks like that can be overcome :)
Sam
Sam - February 5, 2008 at 2:16pm
But can it be used with the iPhone since Rogers is not "officialy" supporting it? I read somewhere that this plan will only work if you have a browser that has been approved by Rogers.
