Apple has seeded a second Release Candidate (RC 2) for iOS 26.2 to developers, arriving less than a week after the initial RC build. The release suggests that Apple discovered a specific issue requiring a fix before the software is cleared for the general public.
This update solidifies a feature set that includes a redesigned Apple News app with quick-access buttons and a dedicated "Following" tab. The Podcasts app gets AI-generated chapters and the ability to follow mentioned shows directly from the player, while the Reminders app gains an "Urgent" toggle to trigger persistent full-screen alarms.
Connectivity improvements include one-time codes for AirDrop, allowing users to share files with people outside their contacts list for a limited time. For the Japanese market, the update adds an option to replace Siri on the Side Button with alternative voice assistants. Additionally, new developer APIs are included to support age verification requirements in Texas.
The build number is 23C54, up from the previous release at 23C52. Barring any further surprises, this second RC will likely be the version released to all users.
Developers can install the update by going to Settings > General > Software Update on their device and ensuring the Developer Beta option is selected.
