Apple expects its upcoming 6.1-inch LCD iPhone to account for a majority of new iPhone sales, reports the WSJ. The company's next generation iPhone lineup is rumored to include two OLED iPhones and one LCD model.

Apple expects LCD models to make up the majority of iPhone sales in its lineup to be released this fall, a greater proportion than analysts had anticipated, and plans to use the displays next year as well, said people involved in the Apple supply chain.

Sources say that Apple initially wanted about 50/50 production of the two screen types; however, the company now believes that consumers will lean towards the cheaper model.

While we've heard rumors that Apple could lower the price of its entire smartphone lineup this fall, the WSJ says analysts expect average selling prices to remain flat next year.

Display Supply Chain Consultants co-founder Yoshio Tamura predicts Apple will wait until 2020 or later to make the full switch to OLED as it needs more suppliers and needs to keep a check on costs.
