Apple is purportedly planning to introduce a MacBook with 5G cellular connectivity in the second half of 2020, according to a DigiTimes report.

The world's top-3 notebook vendors Lenovo, HP and Dell are set to introduce their first 5G models in the second half of 2019, and Apple is also expected to roll out its 5G MacBook series in the second half of 2020, according to industry sources.

The site claims that Apple will use a different design than its rivals, allowing the 5G transceiver to achieve higher efficiency and thus faster speeds.

It is reported that the ceramic antenna board used by Apple has twice the transmission and reception efficiency of the 5G signal to the metal material antenna board, but the cost is six times that of the metal material antenna board. The industry believes that with the brand image of Apple's fine products and the price of high-priced products, the benefits of using ceramic plate antennas will be far higher than their cost, so that Apple may be on the 5G NB battlefield, even if it is late.

Apple recently announced that it was acquiring Intel's 5G smartphone modem business but it's unclear if the alleged 5G MacBook would use a custom Apple modem or a Qualcomm modem. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
