Several publications and a few analysts have already predicted that Apple will announce a new sub-$500 iPhone, which may be called either the iPhone SE 2 or the iPhone 9. My own sources near the iPhone supply chain tell me that parts production for the new phone is now ramping up. One source believes the new phone will likely sell at $399, roughly the same price as the first iPhone SE.
The low-cost device will help Apple compete in the Indian market and could boost sales in China. It will also draw users who may not be able to afford a pricier model like the iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 Pro into the Apple eco-system.
The iPhone SE 2 is expected to feature a similar design as the iPhone 8 with a 4.7-inch display, an A13 processor, 3GB of LPDDR4X RAM, 64GB and 128GB storage options, a Home button, and a Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) antenna design. It will allegedly be offered in Space Gray, Silver and Red colors.
Fast Company also reports that the new device could borrow the iPhone 8's design but says the new phone is 'expected to have a 4.9-inch display'.
Apple could unveil the new device before the end of this quarter; however, the coronavirus outbreak which has shutdown production at numerous suppliers in China could affect the smartphone's launch schedule and availability.
