Apple has released a firmware update for its second generation AirPods.
Today's update is version 2D15, the same version as Apple recently released for AirPods Pro. Previously, AirPods 2 used firmware 2A364.
It's unclear what's different about this firmware; however, it likely includes bug fixes and performance improvements.
You can check the firmware version of your AirPods via the Settings > General > About > AirPods menu. To prompt an upgrade, try plugging your AirPods in to charge near a paired iPhone with an Internet connection.
Amazon is currently selling AirPods 2 with Charging Case for $139, down from $169, and AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case for $169, down from $199.

Still hoping they release a firmware update for the AirPods 1st Gen. since there is a 8 page long thread on Apple Support Community with a whole lot of people with their Gen 1 AirPods renderer useless by the last firmware update and the list grows by the minute.
