Apple is planning to launch two 'iPhone 13' models with displays that feature a 120Hz refresh rate next year, according to a new report from TheElec.

Next year’s OLED panel used for iPhone 13 will be more technologically sophisticated to make compared to those used in iPhone 12. Two out of the four models launching next year will use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LPTO) thin-film transistors (TFT). LPTO technology is needed for the screens to reach 120Hz refresh rate. All four models will use on-cell touch screens as well.

The site also says that Apple is expected to ship 160-180 iPhone units with OLED displays in 2021. This combines shipments for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.

Samsung is hoping to supply panels for 140 million units and expects LG to provide panels for 30 million units. BOE could supply the last 10 million.

LG hopes to supply 40 million panels and estimates Samsung would then supply 130 million and BOE would supply 10 million.

BOE hopes to supply 20 million but it has failed an Apple review twice and will need to reapply to become a panel supplier in 1H21.
