Starlink Internet Terminals From Elon Musk Arrive in Ukraine

Ukraine has announced that a shipment of Starlink Internet kits from Elon Musk has successfully arrived in the country.

Two days ago, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov asked Musk to provide the country with Starlink stations for Internet access as it attempts to fend off an invasion from Russia.

@elonmusk, while you try to colonize Mars — Russia try to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space — Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations and to address sane Russians to stand.


Musk replied saying, "Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route."

Those terminals have now arrived in Ukraine, says Fedorov.

According to Starlink's website, the service uses advanced satellites in a low orbit to enable high data rate activities that historically have not been possible with satellite internet. Users can expect to see download speeds between 100 Mb/s and 200 Mb/s and latency as low as 20ms in most locations. However, like other satellite services, Starlink needs a clear view of the sky so it can stay connected. Objects that obstruct the connection between the terminal and the satellite, such as a tree branch, pole, or roof, will cause service interruptions.

Fedorov has also written an open letter to Tim Cook, asking the company to cease services in the country; however, so far the company has not taken any action we're aware of. Both Meta and YouTube have blocked Russian state media from monetization and Google has shut off live traffic information in Ukraine.
