Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has written an open letter to Tim Cook urging the Apple CEO to cut Russia off from the company's services as it carries out the most atrocious military attack in modern history.
"I’ve contacted @tim_cook, Apple's CEO, to block the Apple Store for citizens of the Russian Federation, and to support the package of US government sanctions! If you agree to have the president-killer, then you will have to be satisfied with the only available site Russia 24."
Here's the letter...
----- The Russian Federation has carried out a deceptive and absolutely outrageous military attack on my country! Just imagine, in 2022, cruise missiles attack residential neighborhoods, kindergartens and hospitals in the heart of Europe.
The armed forces and citizens are defending Ukraine till the end! The whole world is repelling the aggressor through the imposition of sanctions - the enemy must suffer significant losses. But we need your support - in 2002, modern technology is perhaps the best answer to the tanks, multiple rocket launchers (hrad) and missiles.
I appeal to you and I am sure that you will not only hear, but also do eerything possible to protect Ukraine, Europe and, finally, the entire democratic world from bloody authoritarian aggression - to stop supplying Apple services and products to the Russian Federation, including blocking access to App Store!
We are sure that such actions will motivate youth and active population of Russia to proactively stop the disgraceful military aggression.
Your sincerely,
Deputy Prime-Minister of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov -----
Shutting down Apple services or Google services for devices in Russia would have an enormous effect on the country's economy and communication capabilities; however, it's unclear if Apple or Google would consider such a measure.
"The most atrocious military attack in modern history"
As always the West has a selective memory. If we do not include Hiroshima and Nagasaki in modern history, then the attack of all the countries of Europe and the USA against Yugoslavia, within how modern history does it belong? Am I against the Russian attack on Ukraine, but give me a brake, "modern history"? really?
Maybe it’s because there’s everything certain markers and services are doing to pressure Russia to end their inane actions. Russia making profits in terms of what Apple contributes to them is one of their advantages, so of course certain people in this field is going to try something besides putting their life in the line to cut off Russia for enabling a new war!
