Samsung is offering a closer look at its upcoming Galaxy Ring at Mobile World Congress 2024. In an editorial post, Samsung VP & Head of Digital Health Team Dr. Hon Pak declared that Galaxy Ring would simplify everyday wellness.

Mobile devices will become the primary access point for AI, and through Samsung Galaxy — with our broad and comprehensive product portfolio, heritage of innovation and philosophy of open collaboration — we're well positioned to accelerate its global expansion. That's why we're thrilled to be introducing Samsung Galaxy Ring later this year — bringing Samsung's accumulated innovations to the smallest form for comfortable 24/7 wear. As a new addition to our wearables portfolio, Galaxy Ring will offer users an all-new way to simplify everyday wellness, empowering them with greater insights and more ways to understand themselves day and night. With Galaxy Ring, users can embrace an unrivalled experience during every step of their wellness journey, all while being delivered in lockstep with Samsung's broader vision for a more connected, integrated and seamless digital wellness platform.

The Verge was able to get some hands-on time with the ring, describing it as lighter than it looks and slightly concave in shape. It was shown off in three colors: platinum silver, ceramic black, and gold. Each color was offered in sizes from 5 to 13 with sizes marked as S through XL on the inside of the band. At this point the company hasn't detail what sensors are in the band; however, sleep insights based on heart rate, movement, and respiratory indicators were mentioned.

Samsung's partnership with Natural Cycles, which provides period and fertility tracking to Galaxy Watch, will reportedly extend to Galaxy Ring. Additionally, a new 'My Vitality Score' metric coming to the Health app, will use data from the Galaxy Ring. The score is based on a model from the University of Georgia that incorporates sleep, activity, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability.

Notably, Apple has purportedly accelerated development of 'smart ring' technology ahead of the Galaxy Ring launch later this year. A recent rumor claims the company is "close to pre-commercial development, having consistently filed patents related to smart rings for several years."
