Nintendo is reportedly preparing to unleash its development and marketing artillery against Apple after their profits fell for the first time in six years, according to Times Online.
Satoru Iwata, the Nintendo president, has apparently told his senior executives to regard the battle with Sony as a victory already won and to treat Apple as the “enemy of the future”.
Analysts believe that statement may be premature. Sony is reaching the point where it has enough of an install base to make development for just its platform feasible and its superior technology is starting to show against the Wii.
Sales of Wii consoles were down 21 per cent in the year to March 31. Net profits at Nintendo fell to Y228.64 billion (£1.6 billion) from Y279.09 billion.
