iFixit Posts Teardown of New M4 MacBook Pro [Video]

iFixit has posted its teardown of the new M4 MacBook Pro.

This year's Apple devices have been filled with major repairability wins, from the M4 Mac mini's upgradable storage, and easily replaceable CMOS battery to iPhone 16's electrically releasable batteries. So it only makes sense that Apple's engineers have come up with some brilliant repair innovations for the MacBook Pro, too, RIGHT?


Observations
• Battery Replacement: Still requires trackpad removal; stretch-release adhesive tabs improve accessibility.
• Modular Ports: Individually replaceable, enhancing repairability.
• Internal Tweaks: Slightly larger heatsink; minor IC placement changes from M3 Pro.
• Battery Capacity: Unchanged at 72.6 watt-hours despite M4 Pro's more powerful processor.
• Touch ID: Secure design with capacitive sensor paired to the SoC.
• MagSafe: Modular design retained; no major internal updates.
• Logic Board Removal: Complex process due to numerous connectors and brackets.
• Parts Pairing: Repairs with third-party parts risk partial functionality.
• Assembly Layout: Same screw and clip design as previous models; existing guides apply.
• Audio Jack: Still included, catering to professionals.
• Foam Nubbins: Cover screws unnecessarily, complicating disassembly.
• DIY Feasibility: Battery swaps are easier, but repairs remain challenging overall.
