Apple is reportedly planning to upgrade both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max with a 24MP front camera and three 48MP rear cameras, according to a rumor from Digital Chat Station.
In a post on Weibo, the leaker shared details about Apple's camera plans for its next-generation iPhone:
The main camera of the iPhone 17 Pro series won't get any larger. The current specs being tested are a 48MP 1/1.3" main camera, a 48MP ultra-wide camera, and a 48MP periscope camera with 5x zoom. Both the main camera and telephoto camera use GP hybrid glass-plastic lenses. The front camera is upgraded to 24MP, making it a solid option for a large-screen imaging device.
While Digital Chat Station doesn't share any information on the sensor for telephoto camera, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted last July that the high-end iPhone 17 models will boast an upgraded tetraprism camera with a larger 1/2.6" 48MP CIS, which would be a significant step up from the current 1/3.1" 12MP CIS.
Kuo has also predicted that the iPhone 17 Pro front camera will be upgraded to 24MP/6P lens (vs. the 12MP/5P lens of iPhone 15 & 16), which will significantly improve the image quality. Genius is reportedly the primary lens supplier for iPhone front cameras.
Apple is expected to unveil its iPhone 17 lineup at the usual time this fall. Rumors suggest it will drop the iPhone 17 Plus in favor of a new iPhone 17 Air model. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for more updates.
