Netflix has posted a behind-the-scenes look at how it recreated the Apple Amsterdam store for its film 'iHostage'.
The movie is based on a real hostage situation that unfolded at Apple's flagship Netherlands store in February 2022.
In iHostage, inspired by the hostage situation at the Apple Store in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (2022), a man unwillingly becomes entangled in a life-threatening situation when an armed man takes a group of people hostage. A gripping drama unfolds from various perspectives, highlighting courage, survival and the aftermath of terror.
The store is housed in the historic Hirschgebouw (Hirsch building), a landmark structure originally built in 1912. Apple collaborated with architectural firms Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and Schwitzke to restore and adapt the building's interior for its retail space . Notable features include a striking glass spiral staircase, a multilevel atrium, and a large Forum area with an 8K video wall. In 2019, Apple Amsterdam underwent a significant renovation to align with the company's latest retail design standards. The update introduced indoor trees, leather seating, and a Boardroom for business consultations.
How do you bring the intense story of iHostage to life? In this exclusive behind-the-scenes video, director Bobby Boermans takes you through the creative process, the challenges on set and the choices that make the story so compelling.
