Apple Watch Ultra 3 to Gain Satellite Messaging, Full Lineup Refresh Expected Sept 9 [Report]

A new report from Bloomberg today details Apple's plans for its smartwatch lineup, with a significant update for the Apple Watch Ultra, a minor refresh for the Series 11, and a new SE all expected to be unveiled at the company's 'Awe dropping' event on September 9.

After taking a year off from updating the Apple Watch Ultra, a major refresh is reportedly coming for the high-end model. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 will gain support for Apple's satellite network, enabling text messaging and emergency communications. It's also expected to ship with a bigger display, Apple's new S11 processor, and 5G RedCap support. Bloomberg notes this lines up with recent code findings that referenced S11 hardware for the 2025 watches.

The Apple Watch Series 11, in contrast, is expected to be more incremental, retaining the same design as last year's Series 10. The site says it will add a brighter display, new color options to address problems like chipping on the Jet Black finish, and updated band choices.


Apple is also preparing a new version of the Apple Watch SE, which will feature a faster chip and newer display. The company continues to position this entry-level model as a smartphone alternative for kids.

While more advanced health features such as hypertension detection remain delayed due to regulatory and engineering challenges, Apple is reportedly planning to launch a paid 'Health+' AI coaching service next year.
