TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is out with a new report today, claiming that Apple is preparing to add a touch panel to its upcoming OLED MacBook Pro. The move would mark the first time a MacBook has featured a touch panel and is reportedly driven by Apple's observation that touch controls can enhance productivity and user experience in certain scenarios, Kuo said in a post on X.
Kuo says the touch panel will debut on the OLED MacBook Pro, which is expected to enter mass production in late 2026. The panel will reportedly use on-cell touch technology. This timeline aligns with a leaked product roadmap and multiple reports pointing to a major MacBook Pro redesign with an OLED display and M6 chip for the late 2026 to early 2027 window. A recent report from The Elec also indicated that Samsung Display is slated to begin mass production of the OLED panels in the second quarter of 2026.
Before that major overhaul, however, Apple is expected to release a more incremental, M5-powered MacBook Pro in early 2026 that will stick with the current design. That spec-bumped model would serve as a bridge before the more significant redesign arrives later in the year.
The report also clarifies that Apple's new affordable MacBook will not include a touch panel in its first generation. That model, which is expected to be powered by an iPhone processor, is still slated for mass production in the fourth quarter of 2025. Kuo notes that specifications for a second-generation version, anticipated in 2027, are still under discussion and could include touch support. Previous reports have suggested this lower-cost model could feature a 12.9-inch display and a price point around $599.
