Apple's new Vision Pro headset with the M5 chip is assembled in Vietnam, a notable shift from the original model which was built in China, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The change, spotted on the device's packaging labels, underscores the company's ongoing efforts to diversify its manufacturing beyond China.
The move is part of a wider supply chain strategy to sidestep geopolitical tensions and tariffs. Apple has been steadily increasing production in other countries, making most of its AirPods and Apple Watches in Vietnam and even some iPads. The company has also expanded significantly in India, which now has 45 manufacturing partners and is a major production base for U.S.-bound iPhones.
While the full Vision Pro units are labeled "Product of Vietnam," the report notes that the new Dual Knit headband, when sold as a standalone accessory, is still made in China. It is not yet clear if all Vision Pro configurations are being produced in Vietnam or if assembly is split with China, as is the case with some of Apple's higher-volume products. The original Vision Pro was manufactured by Luxshare Precision Industry Co. in China.
Apple has also expanded production to other regions, with some Macs being built in Thailand and Malaysia. The company has also boosted its domestic manufacturing commitments, with partner Corning now set to produce cover glass for iPhones and Apple Watches in the United States.
