Apple is planning to bring OLED displays to future versions of the MacBook Air, iPad mini, and iPad Air, part of a broader effort to upgrade its popular devices with higher-end screen technology, according to a new report from Bloomberg.
The iPad mini is expected to be the first of the three to get the upgrade, with a new model possibly arriving as early as next year. The device, codenamed J510, could see a price increase of around $100 due to the more expensive display. Apple has also reportedly tested a redesigned water-resistant casing that may include a new speaker system using vibrations instead of traditional speaker holes.
The next iPad Air, expected this spring, will reportedly stick with an LCD screen; however, a subsequent generation is being prepared to make the switch to OLED. That update would follow the M4-powered iPad Air, which is planned for early next year. The report adds that Apple has no active plans to bring OLED to its entry-level iPad.
An OLED MacBook Air is also in early development, though that upgrade isn't expected before 2028. The current design will reportedly get an M5 chip in spring 2026 but will continue using an LCD.
The move follows the introduction of OLED on the iPad Pro, which was just updated with the M5 chip last week. The MacBook Pro is expected to be the first Mac to get an OLED screen, part of a major redesign planned for late 2026. Bloomberg notes that Apple's plans could change, citing the 18-inch foldable iPad, which recently had its release pushed back.
