Apple to Launch Touchscreen MacBook Pro With OLED Display and M6 Chip [Report]

Apple is preparing a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, marking a reversal of a long-held stance that dates back to co-founder Steve Jobs, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The redesigned notebook is said to feature a thinner and lighter body, an OLED display, and a new hole-punch camera cutout.

The upcoming 14- and 16-inch models, code-named K114 and K116, are reportedly slated for late 2026 or early 2027 and will run on Apple's next-generation M6 chips. The touchscreen would be a first for a Mac. Apple is said to have developed a reinforced hinge and display assembly to prevent the screen from flexing or bouncing when touched—a common issue on existing touch PCs. The laptops are expected to retain a full keyboard and trackpad.

In addition to touch support, Apple will reportedly replace the current camera notch with a hole-punch design similar to the Dynamic Island on the iPhone. The new machines would also be the first Macs to feature OLED panels, offering a thinner, more efficient display with deeper contrast and richer colors than the current Mini-LED screens.


The timeline lines up with earlier reports of a major MacBook Pro redesign targeted for late 2026. Samsung Display is said to begin mass production of OLED panels in the second quarter of that year, and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently echoed the same timeline, noting that Apple plans to add touchscreen support with the switch to OLED.

This major redesign is expected to follow several smaller updates. Apple recently launched a base model 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M5 chip, and M5 Pro and M5 Max versions with the current design are said to be coming in early 2026, as previously reported.

The report also mentions other new Macs in development, including M5 MacBook Air models due in the spring, updated Mac Studio and Mac mini systems, and two new external displays that have been rumored previously.
