Apple's iPhone 18 Pro Max is set to become the heaviest iPhone ever, with a new rumor claiming its weight will exceed 240 grams. The post, from leaker Instant Digital on Weibo, also suggests the device will be slightly thicker than the current model.
A follow-up post suggests the difference will be about 10 grams, which would put the iPhone 18 Pro Max at around 243 grams—surpassing the 240-gram iPhone 14 Pro Max, currently the heaviest model Apple has produced. The added heft reportedly comes as Apple has "figured out" that making iPhones thinner doesn't necessarily attract consumers if it means compromising on features or battery life, a likely nod to the iPhone Air's reported poor sales.
The extra weight and thickness would likely accommodate more advanced hardware. The iPhone 18 Pro is already rumored to debut Apple's second-generation in-house C2 modem and a 2-nanometer A20 chip, which may come in a high-end "Borneo Ultra" version. Its camera system is also slated for a major update, with reports pointing to the addition of a variable aperture on one of its lenses and a new back glass process for a more seamless look.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to debut in fall 2026 as part of a three-year iPhone overhaul that also includes the launch of Apple's first foldable device.
