Apple is working on a new back glass process for the iPhone 18 Pro, an update designed to make the device's aluminum frame and back panel look more like a single, seamless piece. According to leaker Instant Digital on Weibo, the change will tackle the subtle color mismatch between the two materials.
The report points to another refinement for the 2026 iPhone, as Apple just returned to an aluminum unibody design for its iPhone 17 Pro. This follows separate rumors from leaker Digital Chat Station, who previously suggested Apple was testing a transparent back design for the iPhone 18 Pro, alongside a smaller punch-hole camera cutout.
Other hardware upgrades are also rumored for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. The device is expected to debut Apple's second-generation in-house C2 modem and a 2-nanometer A20 chip, which may come in a high-end "Borneo Ultra" version. The camera system is also slated for a major update, with reports pointing to the addition of a variable aperture on one of its lenses.
The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to arrive in fall 2026 as part of a three-year iPhone overhaul that includes the launch of Apple's first foldable device.
