Apple Unveils iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max With Aluminum Unibody, A19 Pro Chip, 8x Telephoto Camera, and Best Battery Life Yet

Apple today introduced the new iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, featuring a redesigned aluminum unibody, Apple's most powerful A19 Pro chip, and the most advanced camera system ever on iPhone. The new Pro models deliver the best battery life yet in an iPhone, enabled by a larger battery, improved thermal management, and a more efficient design.

The new brushed aluminum unibody is built from aerospace-grade 7000-series alloy, making the devices strong, light, and highly thermally conductive. A precision-milled plateau on the back creates additional space for internal components, housing the camera system while allowing for a bigger battery. The unibody also integrates the antennas around the perimeter, which Apple says provides its best-performing antenna system ever. Inside, a new Apple-designed vapor chamber is laser-welded into the chassis and filled with deionized water to move heat away from the A19 Pro chip. This design enables up to 40 percent better sustained performance than the previous generation, while distributing heat through the body to keep the device comfortable to hold.




Both models feature Super Retina XDR displays in 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch sizes with ProMotion up to 120Hz, Always-On technology, and 3000 nits peak outdoor brightness — the highest ever on iPhone. A new Ceramic Shield 2 protects the front, offering 3x better scratch resistance and reduced glare, while Ceramic Shield now also protects the back for the first time, providing 4x better crack resistance than previous rear glass.

The A19 Pro chip is Apple's most capable iPhone processor yet. Its 6-core CPU is the fastest in any smartphone, while the 6-core GPU features a larger cache, more memory, and Neural Accelerators built into each core. Combined with a 16-core Neural Engine, A19 Pro supports on-device generative AI, advanced Apple Intelligence features, and console-quality gaming. Apple highlighted AAA titles like Arknights: Endfield, with hardware-accelerated ray tracing and higher frame rates now possible on iPhone.



Connectivity also improves with the new N1 wireless chip, which brings support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, while enhancing performance of AirDrop and Personal Hotspot. Models in certain regions will ship as eSIM-only, freeing up space for a larger battery. In these models, Apple says users get up to 39 hours of video playback, the longest ever in an iPhone. Both Pro models can also charge to 50 percent in 20 minutes with Apple's new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter.


The camera system is Apple's most advanced to date, featuring three 48MP Fusion cameras — Main, Ultra Wide, and a new Telephoto — delivering the equivalent of eight lenses. The new 48MP Telephoto uses a next-generation tetraprism design with a 56 percent larger sensor, enabling a 4x 100mm lens for portraits and an 8x 200mm lens — the longest optical zoom ever on iPhone. Digital zoom now extends up to 40x. A new Photonic Engine leverages machine learning to enhance color, preserve natural detail, and reduce noise, while iOS 26 introduces a new Bright Photographic Style that boosts skin tones and vibrance.



On the front, the all-new 18MP Center Stage camera debuts Apple's first square sensor. It supports portrait or landscape selfies while the phone is held vertically, uses AI to expand the frame for group shots, and can automatically rotate between orientations. The front camera also records ultra-stabilized 4K HDR video, supports Dual Capture for simultaneous front and rear recording, and keeps users centered during FaceTime and third-party video calls.

For video professionals, the iPhone 17 Pro lineup adds industry-first features including ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock, allowing precise synchronization of multiple cameras in production. Support for Dolby Vision HDR, 4K120 fps, ProRes Log, and ACES is also included, with APIs available for developers and integrations with Final Cut Camera, Blackmagic Camera, and Blackmagic Design's new Camera ProDock.



Running iOS 26, iPhone 17 Pro supports the full suite of Apple Intelligence features, including Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone; visual intelligence for acting on anything visible on screen; a refreshed "Liquid Glass" design for system apps; new call/message screening; and the new Apple Games app.

Apple is also introducing a new lineup of accessories for the Pro models:
• TechWoven Case ($59), crafted from multi-colored yarns with protective coating, available in five colors.
• Clear Case with MagSafe ($49).
• Silicone Case with MagSafe ($49), available in six colors.
• Crossbody Strap ($59), available in 10 colors, compatible with TechWoven and Silicone cases.
• FineWoven Wallet with MagSafe ($59), available in six colors.
• Qi2 MagSafe Chargers ($39–$49).
• 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max ($39).



Apple emphasized its environmental efforts, noting the Pro models use 30 percent recycled content, 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery, and 100 percent recycled gold plating in Apple-designed PCBs. Devices are built with 40 percent renewable electricity in the supply chain, and packaging is entirely fiber-based.

The iPhone 17 Pro is available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities, starting at $1,099, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max is available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and, for the first time, 2TB, starting at $1,199. Both models come in deep blue, cosmic orange, and silver. Pre-orders open Friday, September 12, with availability beginning Friday, September 19 in over 63 countries, expanding to 22 more on September 26.

Apple is also extending free access to satellite features for iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users by an additional year. Customers who purchase an iPhone 17 Pro will receive three free months of Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+, Apple Music, Apple News+, and Apple TV+ with a new subscription.
