Recent speculation suggesting the iPhone 18 Pro would feature a hole-punch camera in the top-left corner appears to be based on a translation error.
According to a new post on Weibo from leaker Instant Digital, the claim that the selfie camera will shift to the side is "complete misinformation." The leaker attributes the confusion to a misunderstanding of earlier reports regarding the placement of under-display sensors.
Instant Digital states that prior leaks from supply chain sources in China and Korea indicated the iPhone 18 Pro would position an under-display infrared sensor on the left side of the screen. An English-language source reportedly mistook this detail for the camera itself, sparking rumors of an asymmetrical design shift.
The corner-camera concept originated with a report from The Information last year, which claimed Apple was planning to relocate the lens. That narrative gained fresh momentum this week after being visualized in new renders from Jon Prosser.
While the location of the cutout is now in dispute, expectations remain high that Apple will move to under-display Face ID for the 2026 Pro models. If the infrared sensors are successfully moved beneath the display as predicted, the iPhone 18 Pro will likely stick to a single, centered circular cutout for the camera.
The device is expected to launch in the fall of 2026, powered by the A20 Pro chip.
