Apple Adds New Partners to Expand Its U.S. Supply Chain

Apple is planning to spend $400 million on its domestic supply chain through 2030, bringing four major suppliers of materials and components into its American Manufacturing Program. The tech giant announced today that Bosch, Cirrus Logic, TDK, and Qnity Electronics will manufacture critical materials and components for Apple devices at facilities across the United States.

The expansion builds on Apple's American Manufacturing Program, a key part of the company's broader pledge to invest $600 billion into the U.S. economy over a four-year period. By localizing more production, Apple aims to create jobs and strengthen its domestic manufacturing base. Apple CEO Tim Cook said the partnerships highlight the impact of investing in American innovation. The components produced will be used in devices sold globally.

A significant portion of this funding will establish new domestic production lines for sensors and integrated circuits. TDK, an Apple partner for over three decades, will manufacture tunnel magnetoresistance sensors in the U.S. for the first time. These components play a key role in iPhone features like camera stabilization and will increase the volume of chips Apple sources from U.S.-based supply chains.

Meanwhile, Apple, Bosch, and TSMC will work together to produce integrated circuits at a fabrication plant in Camas, Washington. These chips power features like Crash Detection, Activity tracking, and elevation. Apple has increasingly leaned on TSMC's stateside expansion, recently moving to secure 100 million U.S.-made chips from the foundry's growing footprint.

Apple is also working with Cirrus Logic and GlobalFoundries to establish new semiconductor process technologies at a facility in Malta, New York, including a silicon process available in the U.S. for the first time. The site will develop mixed-signal solutions, including the advanced circuits needed to operate Face ID systems. In addition, a partnership between Qnity Electronics and HD MicroSystems will provide cutting-edge materials and technologies essential for semiconductor manufacturing and advanced electronics.

To support this growing industrial base, Apple highlighted the ongoing progress of its Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit. The initiative, which launched last fall, has supported nearly 150 small and medium-sized businesses through free in-person training sessions and virtual programming focused on automation and smart manufacturing. The academy will host a Spring Forum from April 30 to May 1 at Michigan State University focused on how AI is transforming the sector. The latest investments follow recent moves like domestic Mac mini assembly in Texas.
