Apple is giving App Store developers a new billing option, introducing monthly subscriptions with a 12-month commitment. The option lets developers offer lower monthly pricing, with users agreeing to complete a full year of payments, expanding beyond the standard set of subscription durations already available on the platform.
Under the new structure, users are billed monthly but commit to 12 payments. Subscribers can cancel at any time; however, the cancellation only prevents the subscription from renewing after the full commitment period has been completed. To improve transparency, users can view the number of completed and remaining payments directly in their Apple Account.
The new option builds on Apple's existing auto-renewable subscription system, which already includes weekly, monthly, and yearly plans. It gives developers another way to structure longer-term subscriptions with monthly billing.
Apple will also send email and, if enabled, push notifications ahead of renewal dates to remind subscribers of their upcoming purchase. Developers can begin configuring these subscriptions now in App Store Connect and test them using Xcode.
Monthly subscriptions with a 12-month commitment will become available to users with the release of iOS 26.5, iPadOS 26.5, macOS Tahoe 26.5, and visionOS 26.5 in May. The feature requires at least iOS 26.4, macOS Tahoe 26.4, or equivalent versions, and will be available worldwide except in the United States and Singapore.
