Apple TV has unveiled a first look at the fifth season of its acclaimed comedy series "Trying," confirming the show will return globally on Wednesday, July 8. The eight-episode season will debut with a single episode, followed by weekly releases through August 26. Esther Smith and Rafe Spall return to star and executive produce.
Season five finds Nikki and Jason dealing with the consequences of Kat, the biological mother of their children Princess and Tyler, suddenly turning up at their doorstep. Her unexpected arrival disrupts the stability they have built, bringing a new wave of chaos into their family life.
The ensemble cast includes returning actors Darren Boyd, Siân Brooke, Celia Imrie, Phil Davis, Gbemisola Ikumelo, and Colin Morgan. The series is created, written, and executive produced by Andy Wolton, with production by BBC Studios.
Music remains a key part of the show's identity. This season's soundtrack is led by Irish artist and producer Orla Gartland, who will debut original songs in each episode, following contributions from Guy Garvey, Maisie Peters, Bear's Den, and BEKA.
"Trying" has maintained strong critical reception since its debut, holding a 96 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. The new season arrives as part of a busy summer lineup, landing just weeks before the fourth season of Ted Lasso and following the renewal of Shrinking. The first four seasons are currently available on Apple TV.
